Lister Diesel Engine Copies Made in India

This is a chronicle of obtaining a heavy stationary engine by auction from ebay and getting it set up. The engine is a copy of one originally manufactured by Lister of England. My particular engine was exported to the U.S. by Metro Exporters of India.

My engine is a four stroke diesel engine with one cylinder and about 6.5 hp at 650 rpm, thus, it's often called a 6/1. These engines are very simple in design which makes them attractive for service in remote areas. There are no electrical components at all and they stand as a testament to the heat generated by compressing a air:fuel mixture by almost 20:1. It's their simplicity and mass that make them attractive to me.

I found numerous online sites for information but I borrowed ideas extensively from 2 websites. One is hosted by George Breckenridge of Utterpower.com who also sells a CD with a wealth of information about taking care of these engines. I purchased this CD and have read and reread it many times. The other site is hosted by John Culp at http://users.chartertn.net/johnculp/ who explains some of the history of the true Lister diesel engine and its Indian made couterpart. I recommend them highly for information and ideas.
