Preparing the Engine
Spent the last week getting the engine ready. Five and a half quarts of Rotella SAE 30 oil in the huge crankcase tops her off. Grease the push rod cups and the valve caps. Put some oil into the cam oiler hole.
Rigged up a 30 gal steel drum for cooling. I'm nervous that I might have made the hot water inlet too high. We'll see, remember think prototype.
Got most of the air out of the fuel lines and will take care of the pump to injector line tomorrow when the engine is outside. I'm finding a mishmosh of metric and Whitworth fittings. The latter were new to me so I did some research on them. Also the coolant pipe fittings are not NPT, rather BSPT, British Standard Pipe Taper. McMaster-Carr has a good selection of NPT-BSPT fittings.
Tomorrow the weather looks good for firing this beast up - partly sunny, 40's F.
